" Yoko Ono Project" Solo Performance at AGO, Toronto April 20, 2002 Report by Miki Narita @ Toronto, TBFC North American correspondent
The sensational play, " Yoko Ono Project " returned to Toronto again!. This time, Solo performance by Jean Yoon alone, whose role is " Helen " tonight, at AGO Theatre at 7:00 PM ( 2:00 PM in the afternoon,). as a part of artistic events for Art Exhibition, " Yes Yoko Ono". The theatre was small with approximately 100 seats and all tickets were sold out. Thes stage was a small, half-circle shape and the view was great to see the performance.. At the back of the stage, there were couple of huge pictures of Yoko's arts, ." Apple" ," Hammer the Nail " and " Bottoms" and the white ladder, which a magnified glass was hanging from the ceiling. on the right.hand corner. The performance started with that play annoucement, " Congratulations, you are one of the selected audience for Yoko Ono Project " and Jean Yoon, " Helen " in red top and black pants appeared the stage and started scattering white cut paper pieces. This time all other Loud mouth Asian Babes, actresses were at audience seats watching her performance. Let me summarize briefly the proceedings of the play..
Jean Yoon started talking about Yoko's childhood and youth, at the centre of stage. ( Yoko's childhood portrait in a sailored-colour school girl uniform at the left-back corner of the stage.) She covered most of famous activities in the sensational 60's Peace activities, " Avan de Garte Days" " Meeting John Lennon" in London, " Bed ins for Peace" " Getting married" " Give Peace a Chance" " Baggism" .and other peace campaign. ( Photos- Yoko's portrait in her trademark, big sunglasses with a hat, John and Yoko's completely naked photos of the famous cover,.Bed -In photo of John and Yoko.) She explained how it started, and how it was like in the 60's.. " Dragon Lady" ( Photo of the famous cartoon, Yoko as a Dragon Lady .) "Bagism" Jean Yoon bronght a huge black bag, and coveredf herself in it. She moved a lot and it was so interesting to see her movements. It was funny. Jean goes up the white ladder and looked " Yes" painting through the magnified glass. " Light Piece" Jean " brought a box of matches and lighted and watched until burned out, reciting Yoko's poem, " Light matches and watch them burning out.". " Kiss, Kiss, Kiss" Yoko's famous song was heard nice and clear from somewhere, and Jean Yoon, started dancing with a small chair at the centre stage - very sexy and funny!!.
Jean sat on the floor and started " Cut Piece". She looked calm. Some men and women in the audience came up to the stage, and started cutting her red top slowly one by one. with a big scissors. Yoko's real-life picture of " Cut Piece " at the back.The parcipants started from the back, side, front, and then, cut off one strap of her red top except her bra straps. She portrayed Yoko's " Cut Piece" very well. It scared me a little when the participants cut, cut, cut pieces of her top until it was cut and torn apart.. The announcement, " Congraturations, you are one of the selected...." came out again, and Jean"s red top was cut apart,scattered papers all over happily. End- she kept on scattering paper, " Hurray! Hurray!" Audience stood up and cheered,
Yoko sent flowers !
An AGO staff brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and presented to Jean Yoon. This flower was a special gift from Yoko Ono herself to appreciate Jean's hard work on " Yoko Ono Project".. Jean looked very happy, and the whole audience cheered and clapped hands.
Yoko Ono's arts and peace activities have been much talked about everywhere, and we all know her works and arts. I found it especially interesting this time to see how Jean Yoon portrayed Yoko, her life, art and activities in such an interesting, creative and unique ways.

I enjoyed the performance very much, and I will give her 9 out of 10 ! It was so real, fun, comical, sensational, sexy.!.... Great performance and enjoyable evening.!
