The WAR IS OVER! Billboard is being posted on 7th Avenue at 10th Street in New York City. This simple but bold statement looks quietly over Greenwich Village. This time around, the billboard was installed to promote an upcoming movie, "THE U.S. VS. JOHN LENNON,"and the regular "Happy Xmas from John& Yoko" part was replaced by "www. joinnutopia. com."
But again this slogan still stands out in the middle of the chaotic status quo, unfortunately. Since this billboard had been displayed in 1969, 37 years have passed. Has the world been a better place since then? It seems foolish wars are still going on around the world up to this day. After all that we should have learned, why do we still tend to resort to violence when it comes to solving problems?
But this slogan, "WAR IS OVER!," is not necessarily designed to apply to the dogmas of national level, but also to our personal issues. Who knows, the national level problems might have been stemmed from simple personal grudge or envies? Therefore, wecan stop any kind of war in our daily life"IF WE WANT IT." The choice is all up to us. Unless we choose a positive answer, we end up with being defeated by negative consequences. Many people passed by under the billboard without noticing it, andseveral pedestrianswho noticedme taking the photos of itasked me whatthe billboard meant.
I thought, I hope, one day,the concept of war will cease to exist and war means nothing,surrounded by all peace.
